Vegetable-tanned leather is a natural, precious material that is sensitive to the world around it. Unlike chemically treated leather, it absorbs your history: the sun, the touch of your hands, and daily use make it more unique every day.
Constant Hydration
Once or twice a year (or if the leather feels dry), apply a small amount of nourishing cream or specific leather balm. Use a soft cloth with circular motions: this keeps the fibers elastic and prevents cracking.
Watch out for water (and heat!)
Vegetable leather is sensitive to liquids. If it gets wet, pat it dry immediately with a clean cloth and let it air dry away from direct heat sources (like radiators or intense sun), which could make it stiff.
Nourish when needed
If the leather feels dry after some time or you notice small surface scratches:
Use a clean wool or cotton cloth.
Apply a small amount of neutral leather cream or simple beeswax.
Massage with circular motions: the leather will absorb the nourishment and become soft and shiny again.
Storage
When not in use, store it in a breathable fabric bag. Avoid plastic, which does not allow the leather to "breathe."
Artisan's Tip: Small marks on the surface are proof that you are wearing a 100% natural material. Often, simply rubbing them with the warmth of your fingers is enough to make them disappear!
